People say
It’s a privilege to get old
But they’re usually young
Being in a body
Is like being in prison
When you go to prison
You have to accept your environment
Accept all the things you can’t do
And work with what you can
See your sentence out
And hope for an early release
Being in a body is similar
Whatever our limitations are
We have to accept them
And work with what we can
If we don’t get early release
We get more and more limitations
And what we can do gets less
Gradually we become a burden
The state doesn’t want us to live
It puts up barriers everywhere
Asking for help
Puts a burden on others
Applying for state help
Has so many obstacles
It often causes early release
If you have to go into a restricted prison
(A care home)
The state takes everything from you
And treats you like a child
It’s far better to get early release
A long sentence is fine
If we’re healthy
If we’re not
It’s purgatory
It certainly doesn’t feel like a ‘privelege’
But the prison is the body
That which inhabits it
Is free
Timeless
Immortal
Still
Silent
If we take refuge there
Our sentence is far less painful…..
