Explanation Of The Tao Te Ching Part Sixty Seven
“Everyone under heaven says that my Tao is great and beyond compare.
Because it is great, it seems different.
If it were not different, it would have vanished long ago.”
Here I think he’s talking about depth. every time I read the Tao Te Ching the insights from my meditation, training and everyday life allow me to view it at a different level. If I haven’t been gaining these continuous insights and wisdom I would have been lost.
“I have three treasures which I hold and keep.
The first is mercy; the second is economy;
The third is daring not to be ahead of others.
From mercy comes courage; from economy comes generosity;
From humility comes leadership.
Nowadays men shun mercy, but try to be brave;
They abandon economy, but try to be generous;
They do not believe in humility, but always try to be first.
This is certain death.
Mercy brings victory in battle and strength in defense.
It is the means by which heaven saves and guards.”
Having mercy means being able to control feelings of anger and revenge and then showing compassion.
Economy is being mindful of reserves of all kind from energy to finance which means that along with compassion we are able to be generous.
Humility is to use that mercy and compassion to lead from behind to support and encourage others without seeking reward.
If we have these qualities we are working in accordance with nature and the Tao.
