The Forgotten Generation

Growing Old…

You walk through the door
The place is empty
No human to greet you
No tail wagging dogs
No purring cat
All gone
Only you left
Waiting for god.

Body that would fail an MOT
Mind that can’t remember what you had for dinner
A legal pharmacy an addict would envy
Cold seeps into your bones
PIP scrutiny worse than the SS
A derisible pension
A society that thinks pensioners are rich
Endless NHS vaccination texts
But impossible to find an empathic GP
You get 10 mins and only 1 problem
Talked over and a prescription

Everyone’s busy
You can only watch the world go by
Whilst being invisible
Your past is a backstory
Your present is empty
There is no future
It’s the last episode
Titled ‘Meeting God’
You’re a forgotten generation

Some say growing old is a privilege
To others it’s serving a longer sentence
A nation that mourns the dead
But forgets the living.
