Sepsis Can Be Fatal!

Sepsis can be fatal!

This only took a couple of hours, in 2015 I got in the car for the 2hr trip from Jizerka to Prague feeling fine. By the time we arrived at Prague I could barely walk and felt really ill. The plane journey was horrific and I collapsed at Gatwick trying to get into the car.

It took over an hour to get me into the ambulance as my heart was giving out. 2 failed surgeries at the NHS hospital and whilst they prepared for the third I knew I would die if I stayed. Luckily my private consultant had just returned from India and agreed to take me. I discharged myself and my friend Will Woma made the nightmare journey to get me Spire.

On arrival the professor had to give my family the ‘talk’ as I was in renal failure and he had to save my life first and then over 5 months I went through several surgeries ending up with the knee removed and the leg fused whilst I was conscious.

In hospital I wrote and published my ‘Warrior’s Mind’ book of poetry from my iPhone 52 meditations and 52 poems in 52 days, it was going to be my ‘legacy’ when everyone thought I was going to die.

I survived and in the next sepsis attack I was blue lighted into Medway A&E during Covid and had the leg amputated.

At the end of that I was diagnosed with prostate cancer and had to undergo a month of intensive treatment.

However, I am still here having my next book published by Ran Network at the end of this month and am still teaching my Tai Chi Coaching Programmes every weekend.

The moral of this story is beware of sepsis!

The signs and symptoms of sepsis can include a combination of any of the following:
confusion or disorientation,
shortness of breath,
high heart rate,
fever, or shivering, or feeling very cold,
extreme pain or discomfort, and.
clammy or sweaty skin.
