The Unseen Problem
The cause of the deep depression
A burning anger in the chest
It leads to sickness and not wanting to be here
Exit is them giving up on life
Stopping life saving medication
Not reporting a potential life taking illness
These don’t show up in statistics
So no one recognises the problem
Many older men suffer with this
They were the ‘rock’
That everyone depended on
But that time has passed
If they speak out they will only make matters worse
Exacerbate other people’s problems
No one wants to hear them
To speak is to make others defensive
To destroy the societal equilibrium
They feel like a silent wraith in a crowd
No one ‘sees’ them anymore
They’re taken for granted
When that burning anger is too much
It turns into a deep dark depression
To actively take their life is wrong
So they just let it go
Not by doing something
But by not doing something
Not even appearing in the statistics
Because no one knew they were there.
