Absent Students

Any long term martial arts teacher knows this. When someone says “I won’t be there because….. “ whatever follows doesn’t matter. They’re not going to be there. I remember saying “it’s okay, I’m always happy to see and teach you, but when you’re not here, I never think about you.” The student looked hurt. The thing is, if we get upset when people don’t attend sessions, we’d be upset all the time. To be happy when they’re here, but not think about them when they’re not, keeps a good relationship and keeps the teacher sane. In the 70’s martial arts … Continue reading Absent Students

Wealth Is A Sickness

Why do people worship the wealthy? How could any decent person flaunt their their wealth while others starve and suffer? How can any decent person look up to them or aspire to do the same? Both sides of that coin are sick. There is a limit to the things that this planet can produce and it’s designed to create balance, humans are supposed to have intelligence and humanity and share that produce with each other and any other being that inhabits it’s environment. Until we diagnose and recognise that hoarding is a sickness we can’t deal with it. If we … Continue reading Wealth Is A Sickness

Let Go Of Letting Go

You know I have an unusual mind. Every day on here I see everyone expounding the merits of positivity, happiness and joy and I really don’t get it. We also don’t want sadness, anger, unhappiness, anxiety or depression. It’s better to have an absence of all of these. The irony is that it doesn’t leave a vacuum, it gives an incredible sense of peace. The process is one of continuously letting go of all of those emotions until you reach a deep abiding peace with both yourself and the rest of the world. Let go, then keep letting go until … Continue reading Let Go Of Letting Go

Club Demons

When an over enthusiastic person joins your club and tries to ingratiate themselves really quickly you have to be careful. Red flags can be: Being too friendly and trying to command attention in class. Using unnecessary titles to flatter you that you don’t use, like ‘Master’, ‘Shihan’ and attaching themselves to them on here like “my Tai Chi Master….” Volunteering to take on tasks and/or trying to form business partnerships using your background to their advantage. Trying to include you in their social life and pushing themselves into yours. Doing unnecessary favours without being asked. Gossiping to separate students and … Continue reading Club Demons

Entropy Of Life

EntropyFrom organised structure into chaos. You’re already dead.Death is infinite and assured.Life sits inside death. It’s finite and tentative. From the moment you’re born,You’re also dead.Life/death is yin/yangWithout death, life has no value. From young, healthy, attractive, nicely scented and succulent,You rot into a grey, dry, wrinkled,Old, invisible and ignored carcass,Smelling of piss and biscuits. From mindlessly leaping out of chairs,You go to the ‘Dawn Of Man’ routine to stand.Or slide from chair to wheelchair. Only young people say “if you’re lucky enough to get old”.When old, sick people hear of a ‘sudden death’, they think ‘lucky bastard’,Even if they don’t say it.The key … Continue reading Entropy Of Life

I Like Simple

I am a simple man. This is why I naturally gravitate to Taoism, Buddhism and Pantheism.I’m always looking for the bottom line.I don’t like clever or complicated.I don’t like deceit.I don’t like masks.I don’t like dogma.I don’t like robes.I don’t like temples and churches.I don’t like priests, vicars, bishops or popes.I don’t like flowery hands and embroidered feet.I dont like arrogance, false confidence or bluster.I like straight talk.I like patience, tolerance, kindness and compassion.I like unity, harmony, community and support.I rely on my gut, my instincts.I know a wrong ‘un when I see them. They pit one against the other. They rely on … Continue reading I Like Simple

Why Should I Be ‘Happy’?

Why should I be happy? One thing that’s always intrigued me is the human pursuit of happiness. Every quote, meme, lifestyle and business guru advert is about how to be ‘happy’, yet with only a little bit of examination we can see that to obtain and maintain the ‘happiness’ being shovelled to us is impossible. It’s an illusion that society’s manipulators captivate our souls with to keep us unfulfilled and forever chasing their carrot. Life consists of order and chaos and we need the wisdom to accept and deal with both aspects. All the time that we’re imprisoned in this … Continue reading Why Should I Be ‘Happy’?

Waking Up Our Chi

Waking up the chi…. The most important part of the day. To get the energy working and vibrant we have to exercise the spine, core and vagus nerve together. Using the mind, breath, emotions and Tai Chi movements, we meditate, calm the system first and then open, close, stretch, compress, twist and release the three together firing up the neural system and releasing the good hormones into the system. It’s an incredible feeling, opening all the cavities in the body and pumping and manipulating them, the stretch goes from tiptoe, to head and fingertips like the ‘yawning stretch’ and release … Continue reading Waking Up Our Chi

Speak Your Truth

Speak your truth.Walk the left hand path.Don’t run with the crowd. Those that clamour around the famous.Have no mind of their own.Separate yourself from them. They are the subjects of others.Don’t subject yourself to anyone or anything.View them all objectively.Tribal fear is not empowering.Lose the pitchfork and torch.Sit in the dark.Find yourself.Let your soul unfold. When you find your truth. There is no fear.No need for the attention of others. That inner knowing shines out.You become insightful.Wisdom finds you.You become the beacon. For those seeking the way.
